Muharraq Nights Public Art: 'Salmeen Ghaneem'

Muharraq Nights is an annual festival taking place in the historic neighbourhood of Muharraq. The celebration took place from December 1st to the 31st 2024, combining food, fashion, music and art.

Al Riwaq transformed the Pearling Path into a catalyst for communal dialogues through responsive artworks. The heritage houses are transformed into contemporary reflection spaces in dialogue with traditional narratives. Local and international artists collaborate with community members to weave cultural exchanges. This activation represents Al Riwaq's ongoing mission of creating inclusive creative spaces. This included public art, under the title "Salmeen Ghaneem".

A traditional blessing for pearl divers, “Salmeen Ghanmeen” is a wish for the safe return of the divers with precious pearls. Following in the footsteps of the divers, forty six artists dive into their own journeys, returning with discovered narratives of the Pearling Path’s living heritage. Through installations, photographs, murals and mixed media, these artists created their own voyages between departure and return.
