Engaging with circumstance means facing and accepting the dynamic of a situation. Al Riwaq’s “Application 003” art residency program concludes with exploratory artworks by artists Waheeda Malullah, Virgine Dreyer, Aziz Jamal, Shaden Al Mutlaq, Hayat Hasan, Ahmed Al Kuwaiti, and Ahmed Al Asad. The collection of installations is organized for the immersion in the artists’ multi-layered stories.
The realities of each artist encourage the exploration beyond our scope, into diverse perspectives and interpretations that shape the ideas of our upbringing, culture, values, and personal histories. It involves acknowledging facts, circumstances, and limitations as they are, rather than as we wish them to be. These personal realities offer a profound insight into narrative structure, revealing the complexity and richness of our shared existence.
